Practical and flexible counselling that helps you feel better

Let’s make sense of the way you’re feeling

Feeling better might seem like a stretch right now. Strong emotions can make you feel out of control, and when they’ve been going on for a while, it’s easy to believe things will never change.

But whatever you’re dealing with, please know that feeling better is possible. Together, we can start to make sense of your emotions, and make them feel easier to cope with.

Give yourself the time and space to start healing

Sessions are a place where you don’t need to worry about what anyone else thinks, what anyone else needs, or the fall out of saying what you really think.

It’s somewhere you’ll be accepted for who you are – however you show up, and no matter what you’ve been through.

Counselling designed to fit your needs, and your life

We are all unique. And what works for one person, might not work for you. So I draw from many different approaches to create a bespoke process, based on exactly what you need.

Sessions are flexible, practical and helpful, with absolutely no jargon or counselling speak – I used to be a primary school teacher, so I don’t do big words! Whatever you’re dealing with, please know that feeling better is possible. Together, we can start to make sense of your emotions, and make them feel easier to cope with.

From the first moment of contact with Sharon, I knew she was the perfect person to help my son, who needed some help after some traumatic events in his life. I felt secure with the conversations we had before my son had even met her.

When we did meet, I could see my son relax immediately with Sharon and the boost he had after his first session was immeasurable. I can highly recommend Sharon to anyone who needs that reassuring help, she is empathetic, kind and soulful, which to me is rare to find.

What we’ll do together

I’ll help you understand yourself better, why you react the way you do, and – if you want to – how to change it.

Together we’ll work out what you really need, and then take steps to getting it.

You’ll learn practical skills that help you solve problems, handle tough situations and keep going, even when things are rough.

Most importantly, you’ll get the confidence to make good choices and positive changes, and move forward with your life.

How we do it

The process is entirely based on what you need. I’m trained in a range of counselling approaches, so I can select the best tools to help with your unique situation. And if your needs change, then we’ll adapt our approach.

Whatever you bring, we’ll find a solution. And if I can’t, or it’s clear I’m not the best person to support you, I can refer you on to someone else.

About me

I’m a person-centred counsellor based in Chichester in West Sussex.

Before training to be a counsellor, I worked as a primary school teacher for 15 years and headteacher for 9 years, so I’ve been supporting people – children, parents, carers and staff – for a long time.

After having counselling to help process a very traumatic time in my life, I started a counselling course so I could support people better in my role as a headteacher. But I found that counselling meant I could make even more of a difference and I left teaching to become a counsellor.

A lot of my time as a teacher was spent working to create happy moments and fond memories for children, especially those who didn’t have happy times at home – I hoped that school would be their safe place and give them hope for their future as adults.

I feel the same way about counselling. It is a huge privilege to hear people’s stories and help them see that they can live a full and happy life – whatever that looks like – even when life is challenging.

Working with me, you’ll get someone who’s realistic and honest, with a firm belief that there’s always a solution.

Everyone at some point in their lives needs time. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to give people that time and show them that things can get better.

Practical details

  • I run sessions online and in person based at Forum House in Chichester. You can do either or a combination.
  • Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, or as and when you need them.
  • Sessions cost £50 per hour and payment is due before your session starts. (I believe everyone should be able to get support when they need it, so I’m happy to talk about fitting sessions with your budget.)
  • I only work with adults so all clients must be over 18.

Think I might be the right person to help you?

The first step is a free half-hour session (in person or online) to see if we like each other and you like my approach.

No pressure, and no obligation. After that first session, if you think I could help, we’ll arrange a schedule that fits with your life and your budget.

Need to cancel or move your session?

You can reschedule or cancel your appointment as long as you give at least 24 hours’ notice. If it’s with less than 24 hours notice or you do not turn up for your session, you may not be able to get a refund or reschedule for that week.
